NDEAM Events Held Around the State

National Disability Employment Awareness Month was celebrated by IVRS and our many offices all over the state, with events happening all throughout October.

We were able to have events all over the state of Iowa.

A statewide online event “Creating an Inclusive Workplace was held October 24th. Hannah Soyer was a featured speaker at the event, highlighting her story of disability justice and navigating her own employment. A business panel (Hawkeye Molding, University of Dubuque, MercyOne, Iowa State University Dining Hall, American Athletic – Spalding and Sodexo) then discussed best practices in hiring individuals with disabilities and working with accommodations.

A big event for the local Des Moines office was held on October 26th in conjunction with IowaWorks on Army Post Road. Easter Seals showed the latest in assistive technology equipment.

There was an open house in Sheldon on October 19th at 2 p.m., showcasing the new space and sharing about the services that they are bringing to this community.

Other events around the state included employer recognitions, job fairs, guest speakers and presentations by staff.
